For Immediate Release:
How to contain COVID-19
CAMBRIDGE (March 10, 2020) — Without proactive intervention, the novel coronavirus outbreak will only get worse, in the US and globally. The New England Complex Systems Institute (NECSI) understands the science of epidemics and how to contain them. Policies we advocated for in 2014 ultimately stopped the West African Ebola outbreak.
NECSI has organized a global volunteer network of over 1000 people and counting and launched a new website with accurate information and guides for combatting the outbreak: www.endcoronavirus.org
The website contains guides for families, communities, businesses, and government, as well as FAQs to dispel common myths about the disease. NECSI’s researchers and volunteers are tracking the spread of the disease and providing detailed, daily updates.
“The developments we’ve observed over the past month are in line with our predictions,” Yaneer Bar-Yam, President of NECSI explains. “The initial response and actions of government are the most important measures in combatting potential pandemics. To be clear, the United States stumbled badly and is now in a state of scrambling. Efforts like the one NECSI is leading are critical to mitigating the very serious risk COVID-19 presents.”
By promoting awareness and spurring individuals to act within their own communities, without having to wait for top-down government action, NECSI hopes COVID-19 can be contained before it spirals into an unstoppable pandemic.
