"With much of the Arab world aflame with either revolution or talk of revolution, many are trying to predict which country could be next. You might think it's pretty hard to tell. After all, three months ago nobody saw Tunisia coming, let alone Egypt or Libya. And even the U.S. Secretary of Defense, Robert Gates, said only last week that, 'while there are attempts to predict political instability, we've never once got it right.' But can scientists do better? Well the answer is: quite possibly. Professor Yaneer Bar-Yam heads the New England Complex Systems Institute in Cambridge, Massachusetts, which has successfully devised scientific formulas to predict where ethnic unrest or a market crash is likely to happen. He joins us now."
